As the sun set on downtown Huntsville this past Saturday, Village Fox Media had the pleasure of sharing the international athleticism of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with over 500 folks in partnership with Downtown Huntsville, Inc (DHI). Despite a drizzly forecast, the weather calmed beautifully in time for our screening event, and with a nice breeze coming in, we enjoyed our Olympic evening despite the stiff summer heat (a seasonally temperate 85°F in the shade!) As a big fan of the Games, it was truly an honor to empower this fun night out for the whole family and bringing the wide world of athletic exceptionalism home to Huntsville’s backyard. Special thanks to the fine folks at LED Orange for providing and delivering the projection screen, coming through when my other options became unavailable at the last minute.
When DHI President & CEO Rob Buddo first reached out to Village Fox about screening Paris 2024 events downtown this summer, I was ecstatic.
The Olympics have held a special place in my life for decades, since my time as a young Atlanta 1996 baseball spectator, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with DHI in a variety of for the past several years: check out our first project together, promoting the Craft Beer Trail back in 2020:
Following the success of that venture, the downtown not-for-profit hired us to produce several more projects, including video productions for the Craft Coffee Trail. Village Fox Media’s projection work with DHI began with the 2021 Movies in the Park series, taking advantage of North Alabama’s balmy October weather to screen films downtown in collaboration with the seasonal Food Truck Rallies, sponsored by Meta.
This summer, our Olympic swimming and track event screenings have been the central attraction to two weekend block parties at the intersection of Holmes Avenue and Jefferson Street, allowing us to boost foot traffic for both the surrounding brick-and-mortar downtown establishments and the wide variety of food trucks rallying around to participate in the festivities.
The Hippea Camper, Teresita’s Tamales, Nomads Road Dogs and even a taste of host country France with the Haute Cuisine of Beast Mode were just a few of over a dozen participating businesses. Stella’s Elixir Lounge, La Esquina Cocina, Melt, and Big Spoon Creamery were of course already on the scene, and this party had the whole block rocking. (Fun fact: this downtown block also houses the personal injury law firm of Timberlake, League, and Brooks, sponsors of our 2023 Women’s Soccer screening with DHI!)
Don’t miss out on more Village Fox summer fun this month: catch us August 16 hosting Huntsville hometown indie darlings Common Man for their album release show at Tangled String Studios, in the Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment Center. Plus, we’re back this fall in Big Spring Park every Friday in October with the return of DHI’s Movies in the Park: hope you’ll pop in!
